Meet Janelle

Janelle Mendoza, a first-generation Filipina immigrant, spent her formative years watching her parents don their nurses’ scrubs to help as many people as they could – the patients in the hospital, the family they sent money to back home, and their bright-eyed kid. Janelle built on her parents’ dreams of attaining a better education and received her B.A. in Political Science from Texas A&M University. Now, following in her parents’ footsteps, she aims to dedicate her life to helping others by working with fellow Texans to build a better Texas.

During the weekdays, you can find Janelle serving in her role as both union steward and Senior Data Associate at MOVE Texas, a nonprofit dedicated to building youth power through civic engagement all around the state.

ZODIAC: Pisces

FAVORITE SNACK: Oishi Ribbed Cracklings in Salt & Vinegar

FAVORITE MEDIA: Spirited Away – this might seem cheesy, but it was the first movie to ever make me cry! When I first watched it as a kid, my heart went out to Chihiro; I knew exactly how it felt for my parents to pick me up and move me to a whole new, unfamiliar, strange place.
